The Summit Primary Centers at Wilson and Jefferson opened their doors in September 2008 to the district's preschool and kindergarten students. These newly constructed state-of-the-art facilities provide Summit's newest students with innovative early childhood learning programs in settings designed to stimulate and inspire young children.

Kindergarten information
The Summit Board of Education has passed a resolution to implement a program of tuition based Full Day Kindergarten to begin in September, 2014.  Under this new program, the Board will use existing, available space in the Wilson and Jefferson Primary Centers for two classes of 20 full-day kindergarten students.  The tuition for the full day program will be $5,500 per child with reduced tuition charged to those who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  Tours of the Primary Center will take place at 8:45 AM on Monday, December 9th at Wilson Primary Center and Tuesday,  December 10th at Jefferson Primary Center.   The lottery application for Full Day Kindergarten will be available online and at all district schools on December 13th.   The drawing to select the lottery winners will be held at the Board of Education offices on January, 22, 2014.  More details will follow.

        On December 13, 2013, applications for Kindergarten, 2014 will be available on the district website.  During school     hours, applications may also be obtained in person at the Primary Centers and at the main office of any one of the Summit       public elementary schools.  Kindergarten registration will take place on Feb. 24, 25 & 26 at the Primary Center.  Please call   Eileen Mortenson to register at Jefferson Primary at (908) 918-2160.

PreK 2014 Lottery Information
The Summit Public Schools is accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Preschool Program beginning on Dec. 13th.  Applications are available online and may also be obtained in person at the Primary Centers and at any one of the Summit public elementary schools during school hours.  Applicants must be residents of Summit, be toilet trained and have birth dates between October 1, 2011 and October 1, 2014.  Students will be selected for this program by lottery.  

All applications must be returned to the Office of Special Education Services at 14 Beekman Terrace no later than 4 PM on January 15, 2014.  The lottery drawing will be held at the Board of Education offices on January 16, 2014, at 2:30 PM.   Parents of applicants are welcome to attend but need not be present at the drawing.  All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by phone and email.  Children who are not selected will be placed on a waiting list.  Special education students are included in the Preschool Program as determined by the District Child Study Team.
Preschool classes may include both three and four year old children.   Classes will meet five days per week, Monday through Friday, except for one Friday per month that will be determined at a later date.  The morning session is from 9 AM to 11:30 AM and the PM session is from 12:30 PM to 3 PM.  An original birth certificate or Passport and proofs of residency will be required for those students admitted to the program.  A tuition fee of $350 per month will be charged for participation in this program during the 2014-2015 school year.  Students who qualify under the income eligibility guidelines set forth under the Federal Child Nutrition Program may be eligible for a reduced charge.  For more information, please call the Office of Special Education Services at (908) 273-6658.
Summit's Preschool programs are located at the Primary Center at Jefferson, 110 Ashwood Ave., and at the Primary Center at Wilson, 14 Beekman Terrace.   Both facilities were inaugurated in September, 2008 and use the Creative Curriculum for Preschool.   The Preschool classes are comprised of lottery students and students who are have been found eligible for special education.  Tours of the Wilson Primary Center will take place Dec. 9 and Jan. 8; tours of the Jefferson Primary Center will take place on Dec. 10 and Jan. 7.  Tours will begin at 8:45 AM and are for parents only.  Please call Eileen Mortenson for reservations at Jefferson Primary at (908) 918-2160 and Judy Shulze at Wilson School (908) 918-2175.
